Stretch of A63 could get lower speed limit depending on…

A stretch of the A63 could see its speed limit lowered depending on how trials elsewhere pan out East Riding Council’s leader has said. East Riding Council Leader Cllr Jonathan Owen said the South Cave to Hessle stretch could be looked at, after safety concerns were raised following a spate of recent accidents. The leader told today’s (Wednesday, January 11) full council meeting injuries on it were concerning despite collisions reducing overall over time. Cllr Owen’s comments came in response to a question from North Ferriby’s Cllr Julie Abraham who asked if he would back assessments to look at lowering speed limits. Cllr Abraham was one of three Conservative councillors representing wards the dual carriageway runs through who called for a safety review last week. The three councillors said in a joint statement accidents also caused traffic to build up in surrounding villages on diversion routes which also increased pollution and associated health problems. National Highways said in response it was currently trialling lower speed limits on eight other roads to study the effects including on air quality. The Agency added lower speed limits could be tried elsewhere depending on the findings of their study which are due later this year.
