They have been out of action for most of 2022, but the Tesco car parking machines at St Stephen’s shopping centre look set to be turned on again tomorrow (Monday). The machines are designed to allow customers to park for free for a maximum two hours in the Tesco car park, in return for spending £5 in store. However, the system has been broken since May 2022. Tesco hoped the machines would be working again by mid-summer last year, but in October, the supermarket giant revealed it was still waiting for new parts to fix them. That proved a bonus during the festive season, when parking spaces came at a premium, but it may also have been frustrating for those genuinely shopping at Tesco. Now, Tesco has announced the machines are due to come back into operation. Notes pinned to the machines state: “These machines will be turned back on Monday, January 2.
