For the first time in eight years, an East Yorkshire petrol station is selling diesel at cheaper rates than unleaded fuel. The Gulf garage, at Long Riston, is selling diesel for 147.9p per litre, after the wholesale price for diesel dropped this week. This is below its unleaded price, which is currently 148.9p per litre. Other petrol stations in the area are selling diesel at rates of around 160p per litre, with the second cheapest garage in the area charging 150.9p per litre. Owner of Gulf Long Riston, Oliver Blake, believes that other stations are inflating diesel prices to keep the price of unleaded fuel low. The Blake family, who have owned it since the 1960s, say their secret is simply not wanting to rip customers off. Oliver has seen a huge surge in customers since he dropped the diesel prices, and motorists are driving out of their way to make fuel savings. He said: “We have already seen a increase in customers, they are also saying things like: ‘I can’t believe the difference in price from here to other places in Hull’. “Personally I’ve seen some prices in Hull at 170.9 a litre and we are 147.9 a litre.
