The worst road for speeding in East Riding and Hull in 2021 has been named as thousands of drivers were once again caught flouting the legal speed limits. The fastest speed recorded on this stretch of road was 73mph. The data is from Safer Roads Humber, who mostly use mobile camera units in 265 core sites to enforce the speed limits. A speed camera sign – the M62 was the worst road for speeding in the East Riding of Yorkshire, with the top three worst speeding spots taken up by sections of the motorway. Safer Roads Humber spokesperson Ruth Gore said: “We would like to thank the majority of motorists who travel around the region at a safe and appropriate speed, however, it is disappointing that a very small minority do not respect the speed limits and exceed them. “In addition, we have detected some very high speeds particularly on the motorways and in 30mph zones which are totally unacceptable. “We would like to remind drivers that the speed limits apply 24/7, on all roads, at all times and not just when a safety camera is present. “Anyone exceeding the speed limit risks being prosecuted.” In total, there were 3,561 speeding offences on the M62 between the county boundary and J35, near Rawcliffe Bridge. The next two worst places for speeding in East Riding were also along the motorway. One driver raced through between junctions 37 and 38 at a speed of 122mph and was part of 2,933 drivers to flout the speed limit there. Not far behind was the M62 between junctions 35 and 36, which saw 2,796 speeding transgressions in 2021.
