Updates as Newland Avenue shut off after ‘serious’ crash

A serious crash has shut a section of Newland Avenue this evening. Witnesses have said the collision has occurred towards the Cottingham Road end of the street, close to the junction with Torrington Street. Police and ambulance crews are at the scene, with the road closed by police. One woman close to the accident said she believed a person had been hit by a car, although this has not been officially confirmed. She said it looked like a “serious” crash. Humberside Police said: “Newland Ave. in Hull is currently closed in both directions due to a road traffic collision. Please avoid the area of you can. Log 669 021019 refers.” Stagecoach tweeted: “Due to a RTC on Newland Avenue all Service 5’s are diverted via Queens Rd, Beverley Rd and Cottingham Rd.” Follow the latest live updates in our blog, which will load below.
