Van fire causes M62 tailbacks at choke point with bridge lane closures

A van fire on the M62 caused major disruption this morning as emergency services rushed to the scene near the Ouse Bridge lane closure. Traffic has been slow moving on the stretch of road for a number of days as emergency repair works are carried out at the bridge. The incident on Tuesday morning (March 29) added more disruption for commuters heading eastbound on the route. Emergency services responded to reports of a van fire on the M62 at junction 36 this morning. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service dispatched on engine and one fast response vehicle to the scene. One fire engine and one fast response vehicle had to weave their way to an incident in the middle of the congestion just past junction 36. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had responded to reports of a van fire on the M62 near the junction. One engine and one fast response vehicle were dispatched to the scene but the fire was found to have been extinguished on arrival. No further action was required by their officers. Earlier on Tuesday morning, the M62 was closed at junction 38 near North Cave. The closure affected the eastbound carriageway only. Humberside Police confirmed the road was closed to allow emergency services to respond to an incident. Police asked motorists to avoid the area where possible and plan alternative routes.
