The damage caused severe damage to underground pipework in Walton Street is the latest in a series of recent water mains failures across the city. Although the collapse in Walton Street happened on November 27, Yorkshire Water say repairs will not be carried out until after Christmas. The busy street remains closed to traffic in both directions near the entrance to West Park. Now councillors have asked for a detailed report on the condition of the city’s drainage network. Councillor Julie Gledhill said: “We just don’t know what state or condition the sewer network of Hull is in but we need to know this and call on the council and Yorkshire Water to act quickly on this and to report on the matter.
