Watch as ‘significant milestone’ hit in A63 Castle Street scheme

National Highways have released drone footage following the 'huge operation' to pour concrete at the A63 Castle Street project site. The work, which took place during March 7 -10, saw a full road closure in place in order to carry out the concrete pour. Issuing an update today, National Highways say that “the scheme has progressed a long way over the last few months, and this was a significant milestone.” In total, 1124.6 cubic metres of concrete was poured over the full weekend, with works successfully completed on time. Fourteen base slabs are now completed – These were the most difficult ones in terms of access. During the works, National Highways also had the challenge of piling for the new gantry (the electronic signage) located to the west of the scheme. This was completed during the weekend closure. Work on the project, which began five years ago, is expected to be completed by Spring 2026.
