A man campaigning to save a Hull newt sanctuary has been seen cycling up and down the A63 in protest. The protester has been spotted in different areas across Hull with a sign in aid of Fountain Road Newt Sanctuary which protesters say has been sold by the current allotment holders after 100 years of being home to precious wildlife. According to a Facebook group dedicated to the cause, the new landlords of the site are seeking to develop the area with concerns raised that “once the bulldozers move in, any sign of the existence of the great crested newt will be obliterated.” However, additional concerns have risen over the safety of the push bike on major roads including Castle Street. One man, who filmed footage of the protester on Thursday morning told Hull Live that the biker was “causing vehicles to slow down and pull out” – which was “causing congestion and a danger”. Been seen around Hull over the past few days. “A protest to some allotments been lost on Fountain Road.” He also took the image about 45 minuted before the video when he saw the man “near Smith & Nephew's”. He was not the only person to spot the man. One person posted in the Hull Traffic and Travel group about it on Wednesday. She wrote: “So can anyone tell me who is the guy on the pushbike displaying a notice board on his back? Both mornings I have seen him holding up traffic and cycling in the middle of the near side lane on the A63.
