‘Worn-out’ Hull street where traffic ‘sounds like a jet engine…

Residents are desperate for their street to be resurfaced after claiming traffic shakes their houses and sounds like a “jet engine”. They say Pickering Road, in west Hull, is a great place to live, but the road itself is worn out and uneven. Some have lived in the street all their lives, but claim that they have never seen it resurfaced, except for the odd repair to potholes. Jean Drury, 64, said: “The road is very worn on top and there's a lot of traffic that comes down here, so it rumbles even more. When I'm in bed, I can feel it shake when the lorries go past.” Read more: Neighbours' two-year hell as 'hazardous' mountain of rubbish dumped outside 'eyesore' empty house She added: I've been here for 23 years and I've never seen it be resurfaced. The road is used as a diversion route when the other roads are closed, so the noise gets very bad. I can't open my front windows because of how loud it gets.” A fellow resident, Sue, has lived a few doors down since 1992. “I mainly stay in the bac,k so thankfully the noise doesn't bother me too much,” she said. “It does need resurfacing though, because I haven't seen it done for 30 years.” Residents say the surface of Pickering Road is worn out. The state of the road, with lots of patches, means it's disruptive because you hear every change in surface.” Kerry Taylor, 52, has lived on the street since she was 4. “It's never been resurfaced properly, aside from filling little bits,” she said.
