Hull Daily Mail Icon News Hull & East Yorkshire News A63 The project is set to be completed this year The newly constructed underpass on the A63 Castle Street is due to open to traffic “in the coming weeks”, National Highways has confirmed. The major project is set to be completed in the Spring. The scheme, which sees part of the A63 taken underground, allowing for Ferensway and Commercial Road to meet at street level, has been ongoing for around six years. The project was originally meant to be completed almost a year ago, but in late 2024 National Highways altered the completion date from Spring 2025 to Spring 2026. At the time, National Highways explained the delay by saying: “We have encountered some extremely challenging ground conditions near the Humber that could not have been anticipated before the scheme began.” Further overnight closures have been announced for this month, with closures set for most nights during January. During the closures, the A63 will be shut both directions between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way. Do you feel safe on the roads? The works are also expected to reduce congestion. The A63 project is one of several major schemes in Hull city centre that are set to be completed in 2026. The year ahead is also set to see the long-awaited completion of the Queen’s Gardens project and the refurbishment of the Maritime Museum.
