News Hull & East Yorkshire News Traffic & Travel The council says it will ‘improve the condition of key residential roads that are beginning to show signs of wear’ More than 30 roads in Hull will see closures over the coming weeks as an annual micro-surfacing programme gets underway. The project, which involves treating over 39,000m² of road surface, is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 18. Hull City Council officials expect the works to be completed by Thursday, June 11, provided weather conditions are favourable. As part of the authority’s highways capital programme, the improvements target residential roads that are beginning to show signs of deterioration. The micro-surfacing process is designed to remove shallow defects, such as potholes and cracking, while sealing the road to prevent water ingress – a move intended to improve both safety and road conditions for residents and commuters. To facilitate the work, full road closures will be in place at each site. Work is scheduled to take place between 7am and 5pm on the dates in question. Residents affected by the closures are receiving notification via letter drops two weeks in advance, and contractors will distribute informational leaflets. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “This programme has been developed to improve the condition of key residential roads that are beginning to show signs of wear, helping to keep them safe and reliable for everyday use. “We recognise that these works may cause some short‑term inconvenience and we apologise for any disruption. However, we are committed to minimising the impact by completing the works as quickly and efficiently as possible and keeping residents informed throughout.” The project will be carried out by Colas on behalf of the council.
