Storm-damaged road and footpath will be repaired An essential road improvement scheme is to begin next week on the seafront in Hornsea. East Riding Council is to invest £250,000 to repair and upgrade the road and footpath in South Promenade, which has been damaged by the recent, prolonged severe weather and cold temperatures. The scheme aims to strengthen the existing road between Broadway and Hornsea Burton Road by laying a new surface course and carrying out structural patching in order to reduce the risk of future storm damage. The project, which also includes extensive drainage work, kerbing and footpath patching, is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 23 and is due to take between six to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting. This will follow initial preparation works set to be carried out on Friday, February 20, when the road will be closed between 8am and 5pm, but reopened in the evenings. When the major work begins, on Monday, the road will be completely closed 24-hours-a-day for the duration of the scheme.
