Hull Daily Mail Icon News Hull & East Yorkshire News East Riding of Yorkshire Council Improvements will be made to road surface using existing materials Essential road improvements are scheduled to begin in Walkington, near Beverley, using a carbon-saving scheme that recycles the existing materials. East Riding Council is to invest £800,000 to upgrade Wold Road, between Walkington Heads and the B1230 Hunsley Road, starting on Monday, February 23. The work will involve resurfacing the road by recycling the existing material to create a new foundation layer, over which a new road surface will be laid. The council said it has been calculated the project will save 146 tonnes of carbon during the construction phase, compared to traditional resurfacing methods, for this 1.4km stretch of road. The road will also be widened, and its edges will be strengthened. The work is due to take between eight and ten weeks to complete, weather permitting, and the road will be closed to traffic during that time, the council has said. Vehicle access to properties within the working area will be maintained, but residents will be informed of any further restrictions. Pedestrians will also have access, while bin collections, post, deliveries and the emergency services will not be restricted. The works will be carried out by contractor Britcon Ltd, on behalf of the council.
