I haven't had a bicycle since I was a child and never saw the need for one until Drypool Bridge shut earlier this month – a disaster for anyone with an east Hull commute. With bus journeys taking up to 90 minutes and car journeys not much better, it's little surprise some people living east of the river felt unable to travel into town. I was one of them. The charity was chosen by Hull City Council to operate a cycling hub from the market to help promote active travel. The hub can also offer repairs and servicing and runs monthly workshops on bike maintenance. I found the man who advised me both knowledgeable and helpful.
