Hull Daily Mail Icon News Hull & East Yorkshire News Traffic & Travel Repair work is being carried out to ensure the road surface is in good condition ahead of the upcoming closure of Drypool Bridge A major Hull bridge will close for two weekends for “essential resurfacing works”. North Bridge will be shut to all traffic, including cyclists, for 48 hours during each closure. The first will take place this coming weekend with the crossing closed from 6am on Saturday, March 21 until 6am on Monday, March 23. The second closure will happen after Easter, shutting from 6am on Saturday, April 11 until 6am on Monday, April 13. Hull City Council says the works will ensure the bridge remains safe and operational. It is intended to repair deteriorated road surfacing in expectation of heavier traffic later this year when Drypool Bridge closes for eight weeks. The council says that, by carrying out North Bridge repairs now, “it will prevent the damaged areas from worsening, which could otherwise lead to an unplanned closure later in the year”. During the weekend closures, the crossing will be shut to all road users, cyclists and emergency vehicles. The footpaths will remain open for pedestrians. The diversion route will direct drivers over Drypool Bridge. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “With the increased volume of traffic that will use North Bridge as part of the diversion and designated bus route during the upcoming Drypool Bridge closure, these works are essential to ensure the bridge remains safe and operational. “By repairing the deteriorated areas now, we can prevent them from worsening and avoid a much more disruptive, unplanned closure in the future. “We understand the inconvenience these weekend closures will cause and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation whilst our contractors carry out these vital works.” The upcoming eight-week closure of Drypool Bridge is scheduled to start from a date in mid-to-late May.
