Incident closes westbound A63 near Hessle – recap

Drivers were being urged to avoid the westbound A63 in the Hessle area due to an “ongoing incident” this morning. An incident was reported between the junction for Hessle, at Priory Way, and the A15 Humber Bridge shortly before 10am. A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Please avoid the A63, Westbound between the junction for Hessle, Priory Way and the Humber Bridge whilst police deal with an ongoing incident. Traffic is building in the area and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.” Traffic was reportedly queueing back towards Hull due to the closure. The road was cleared by around 11.30am with traffic gradually returning to normal. Key Events Police statement after crash 14:02 14:02 KEY EVENT Police statement after crash Humberside Police have issued a statement following the incident this morning confirming a driver was taken to hospital: Officers were called to reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A63 near Hessle at around 9.20am this morning (Monday, 5 January 2026). It is reported that a green Hyundai i20 and a silver HGV were in collision whilst travelling westbound on the A63 shortly after the junction with Priory Way. Emergency services attended and the driver of the Hyundai was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
