Major footpath improvement works announced around Hull

Hull Daily Mail Icon News Hull & East Yorkshire News Hull City Council Eighteen streets and one park have been identified as priority areas A major footpath improvement programme will see around 19,000m² of pavements around Hull upgraded across 18 priority streets and one of the city’s major parks. The extensive maintenance project is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 23, and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, April 22, provided weather conditions are favourable. The works will utilise a technique known as “slurry sealing,” which involves applying a thin, protective layer over the existing surface to treat shallow defects such as potholes and cracking. By sealing the paths against water ingress, the council aims to halt further deterioration and extend the lifespan of the city’s pedestrian infrastructure. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, welcomed the start of the works, saying: “This scheme will help to improve the condition and safety of Hull’s footpaths for residents, commuters, and visitors, encouraging active travel options.” He added: “By investing in simple but effective treatments like slurry sealing, we can extend the life of our streets and reduce the need for more disruptive repairs in the future.” The programme is funded through the Highways Capital Programme and the Love Your Neighbourhood project. To ensure residents are kept informed, letter drops are being conducted before work begins at each location, and contractors will distribute leaflets with specific details for those in the affected areas. The council has released the following schedule of the planned works, though officials noted that these dates are subject to change based on weather conditions: Green Island: March 23 to March 26 (Odd side from No. 1 to No. 101; Even side from No. 2 to No. 28 and No. 44 to No. 64) Frodsham Street: March 23 to March 25 (No. 49 to No. 55) Cyprus Street: March 23 to March 25 (Even side from No. 18 to Frodsham Street; Odd side from No. 19 to Frodsham Street) Delhi Street: March 23 to March 25 (Both sides from Hedon Road to Frodsham Street) Broadstone Close: March 24 to March 27 (Various locations including internal footpaths) Wareham Close: March 26 to April 1 (Various locations including internal footpaths) Ingl…
