The project will see improvements made at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road/Bude Road junctions as part of the Kingswood Area Action Plan. Initial works will start early in the New Year, with a focus away from the roads, to prepare the sites. The main schemes are then expected to get underway in early March and be completed by the end of 2026. Hull City Council has now appointed Hessle-based construction company CR Reynolds to deliver the improvements. It follows the arrival of several new housing developments nearby in recent years with the projects designed to help increase traffic capacity in the area. They will also improve cycle and pedestrian facilities to help people walk and ride more, provide new signalised cycle and pedestrian crossing points to improve safety, and manage trees in the area with some to be taken up and replanted. Where this cannot be done, twice as many replacement trees will be planted. The council sought feedback from local residents on the plans during the summer and, following this, minor revisions were made. They include modification to advance lane direction signs for drivers and an increase to the width of the new cycleway link between the Ennerdale Leisure Centre roundabout and Littondale. The council says a “phased approach” will be used to minimise disruption with work being carried out on both sites at the same time to reduce the overall length of the construction period. The multi-million-pound scheme has been funded through the authority’s capital programme as well as an allocation of funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
