Willerby roundabout draws mixed reviews from drivers after £1.9-million works

The new Willerby Roundabout has been open for more than a week and drivers have now had a chance to test the £1.9million improvement works. A spokesperson for East Yorkshire of Riding Council said it was early days but the roundabout was “performing as expected in terms of improving traffic flows and reducing queues”. Some drivers have said the new roundabout is “great” and “much better”. But other motorists have complained about the addition of traffic lights. Another driver complaining about being stuck at red lights commented: “I have to stop at six in the morning when there is no traffic.” Arguing against the new traffic lights, one user said: “Roundabouts just flow if you use them properly.” In response, someone else said: “The problem is that people don't. “Some speed round them so as not to let anyone out or they block them without a second thought. It's bad driving habits that cause the disruption and the need for traffic lights.” But several drivers were glad of the changes, with one writing they were “often sat for 15 minutes in rush hour” before the improvement works.
