Work on Maybury Road will begin next Monday (March 23) and is expected to be completed by Friday, April 17. The toucan crossing will see the installation of new traffic signals with push-button controls which Hull City Council says will create a safer crossing point. To install these, new ducting will need to be laid beneath the carriageway. This requires creating a concrete trench within the road, which will be carried out in two phases to maintain safety for both contractors and the public, while helping traffic continue to move through the area. Three‑way temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout the installation and during the curing period for the concrete. As part of the wider improvements, the scheme will also include the installation of red tactile paving, footway resurfacing, and anti‑skid surfacing on the approaches to the new crossing to further enhance safety. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Residents tell me that improving road safety is a top priority for them. As a council, we are committed to improving and enhancing the safety of our road network, so I’m pleased to see improved crossing facilities for Maybury Road. “This new crossing will make it safer for everyone moving around the area and promote healthier travel such as walking and cycling.
