News Hull & East Yorkshire News Traffic & Travel The council says it will ‘help improve public transport reliability and keep traffic moving smoothly’ Drivers in Hull are being reminded that enforcement of the yellow box junctions on Ferensway will begin on Wednesday. For the first six months, the first penalty charge notice (PCN) will be a warning notice only with any further contraventions resulting in a £70 PCN. After the six-month period, all contraventions will result in a £70 PCN. Enforcement will begin with the yellow box junctions on the route into the interchange from Brook Street, over Ferensway, into Margaret Moxon Way (Hull Paragon Interchange). Following Hull City Council’s cabinet approval of the measures, the authority was granted powers to enforce traffic offences by the Government. These include blocking a box junction, banned right or left turns, going the wrong way in a one-way street, or driving where motor vehicles are prohibited. The council says results from a public consultation, which took place in 2023, confirmed support for the application of these powers, with 60 per cent of those who responded supporting enforcement at the yellow box junctions on Ferensway. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “We want to remind drivers that enforcement is about to begin. Enforcing these yellow box junctions will help improve public transport reliability and keep traffic moving smoothly through one of the busiest parts of the city. “The consultation showed clear public backing for this enforcement. By reducing congestion, it improves safety for all road users and makes journey times more reliable – especially for buses travelling to and from the interchange.” Yellow box junctions are a shared power under the Traffic Management Act with both …
