Existing signals will be replaced with “modern, low‑energy LED technology,” which aims to significantly improve energy efficiency and “reduce carbon emissions, improve traffic flow and enhance safety”. The work is scheduled for the half-term break to take advantage of lower traffic levels and keep disruption to a minimum. The scheme is expected to take five days ( weather permitting), with the junction reverting to permanent operation as soon as work finishes. During the works, which are being carried out by SWARCO, “four‑way temporary traffic signals – including full pedestrian crossing facilities – will be in place” for the safety of contractors and the public.
