£330m transport boost for Hull and East Yorkshire as Government…

Hundreds of millions of pounds will be provided for transport schemes in Hull and the East Riding, the Government said today. Almost £330m will be available to spend on improving public transport and upgrading the road network, ministers have pledged. The money is due to be reallocated from the HS2 high-speed railway scheme, after the northern leg was scrapped last year. The cash for Hull and East Riding is part of a wider £4.7bn announcement for the North and Midlands, including £947m for the Yorkshire and Humber region. Prime Minster Rishi Sunak claimed the move would allow local leaders to “invest in the transport projects that matter most to them”. Hull’s share of the pot is £161,146,000 while the East Riding allocation is £168,269,000. The money will come in addition to the long-awaited electrification of the rail line from Sheffield to Hull, the Government said. It will be provided through the Local Transport Fund as part of the Government's £36bn Network North scheme, which was established following the scrapping of the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2.
