Stagecoach to carry out ‘thorough investigation’ following bus fire

Thankfully, the driver managed to evacuate passengers and there are no reported injuries. Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a bus on fire on the A15 southbound, near the slip road to Barton, this morning. As a result, the Humber Bridge was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident. The fire service sent three fire engines and quickly extinguished the fire, leaving the incident with Humberside Police and the Humber Bridge Board. Just after 11am, it was reported that both carriageways had reopened but there was slow traffic in the area. At the time of writing, according to a post on the Humber Bridge Facebook page, traffic management and speed restrictions were in place. The post reads: “We can confirm that the Southbound carriageway has been assessed and is now open. “However, traffic management and speed restrictions are in place, with the carriageway reducing to one lane around the site of the fire. Please follow all traffic management instructions and thank you for your patience during the incident.” A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Midlands said: “Smoke was detected from one of vehicles as it travelled across the Humber Bridge at around 7.25 this morning. Our driver evacuated passengers from the vehicle safely and we are not aware of any reported injuries. “The fire services were called and attended the vehicle. Safety is our absolute priority.
