Hull Daily Mail Icon News Hull & East Yorkshire News Traffic & Travel Work is moving on to lighting, electronic message boards, traffic signals, new signage, drainage, planting and landscaping The A63 Castle Street scheme, pictured in late August (Image: Hull Live) Part of the A63 in Hull will be closed in both directions every night for almost all of January as work continues on the Castle Street project. National Highways says it is “continuing to move forward with the split-level junction at Mytongate”. Work is now moving on to lighting, electronic message boards, traffic signals, new signage, drainage, planting and landscaping as the huge scheme approaches its expected completion in 2026. Until December 19, the A63 westbound between Brighton Street and Daltry Street is being resurfaced alongside Castle Street. Last month, National Highways said work in the main underpass has “included the installing of ninety-six pre-cast brick wall panels to the side of the underpass, work on the bridge deck, and creating the new central barrier”. Meanwhile, Commercial Road is being resurfaced before the connection is created to the new underpass joining to Ferensway. A full weekend closure on the westbound carriageway took place on December 6 and 7 which was “essential to deliver roadworks and complex drainage-related tasks that cannot be completed within a single night shift”. National Highways previously announced a series of overnight closures in the run-up to Christmas. These will take place between 8pm and 6am every weeknight (Monday to Friday) until December 19 when work will pause for Christmas and New Year. The closures will be between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way and, until December 12, the westbound Daltry Street entry slip will also be closed during these times. The overnight closure this Wednesday (December 10) for the Brighton Street to Daltry Street section will be delayed until 11pm due to the Championship game between Hull City and Wrexham at the MKM Stadium which kicks off at 8pm. When work resumes in the New Year, closures will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, including weekends, in both directions between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way from Monday, January 5 until Sunday, February 1. National Highways says there will also be “further overnight closures on the A63 between Brighton Street and Daltry Street eastbound in the New Year” with updates to be shared as they are confirmed.
