Proposals to re-open East Park's gates to cars have been approved by Hull City Council today (Wednesday, March 27). East Park's main gates will be re-opened to cars which will be allowed on a 350m stretch of road close to the Holderness Road entrance. A Hull City Council decision record stated there would be a significant impact on parking in the wider community if the gates remained closed. Council Culture and Leisure Portfolio Holder Cllr Rob Pritchard said the decision sought to balance the needs of locals and park users with concerns raised by disabled visitors. The decision follows a campaign from some living near to the park to keep the gates closed amid safety fears including for children. A further 10 per cent supported more parking for East Park but they asked for an alternative solution to be found. The approved plans will allow cars onto the stretch of road between the Holderness Road gates and the entrance to Woodford Leisure Centre.
