Hull's bus lanes will return to peak time-only enforcement on Monday (March 18) – officially at least. To all intents and purposes, all-day bus lanes ended two weeks ago, when signs were altered to reflect the change and enforcement was suspended. From Monday. the new rules come into force, meaning most drivers must stay out of the bus lanes between 7-9.30am and 4-6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Outside of these times, the lanes are available for use by all traffic. The “limbo” period over the past few weeks has led to some confusion among drivers, with some asking why others were not already making full use of the lanes. And it seems that a small minority will be happy if others stay out of them. Don't give any thing away that might slow us normal folk down.” Hull City Council said the peak time-only restrictions would apply equally to bus lanes both into and out of the city. During rush hours, buses, taxis, and bikes will be able to use the bus lanes. The only exception to the new rules is the Carr Lane bus gate, which will remain in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meanwhile, vehicles will no longer be able to wait or load within the bus lanes during peak times – a change introduced to make the lanes more efficient and safer for cyclists. Councillor Mike Ross, the leader of Hull City Council, thanked motorists for their patience during preparations for the changes, which began with a transport survey in the summer of 2022.
