Car park once branded ‘worst in Hull’ is now being…

It was once branded the “worst” car park in Hull, but it is now being transformed in order to attract more users. On one visit to the Pryme Street multi-story car park, off Freetown Way, in 2022, a Hull Live reporter found empty alcohol bottles, faeces and needles. Customers complained that it was “dirty, smelly, run-down and unkept”. But thanks to “vital investment” from Hull City Council, the car park is undergoing a big makeover, including a deep clean, smart lighting upgrades, new signage, road improvements and other general repairs. It comes as capacity at the nearby Albion Street car park is reduced due to construction of a new health centre. The works have been created by graffiti artists Mike Sprout, Ella Dorton and Let’s Have a Skeg. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, the council's transport portfolio holder, said: “I’m pleased to see that Pryme Street car park is receiving such vital investment. Not only will these improvements enhance safety and visibility for drivers, but our collaboration with local artists celebrates our city’s creativity and cultural richness, making the space welcoming and vibrant.
