Changes to plans to reopen East Park gates to cars…

Plans to allow cars into East Park could change – with access from one road dropped following a consultation. Allowing cars to get into East Park from James Reckitt Avenue to the model boat pond are no longer recommended as part of the plans set to go before councillors. Hull City Council's Culture and Leisure Portfolio Holder Cllr Rob Pritchard said the changes showed the authority had listened to the views of those consulted in December. It comes as more details about the plans – including the proposed number of parking spaces – are set to go before the council's East Area Committee on Tuesday (March 5). The proposals going before councillors are to allow vehicles onto a 350m stretch of road from the Holderness Road entrance to Woodford Leisure Centre. Cars would drive one-way along the permitted stretch of road which would have space for 70 cars parallel parked, four accessible bays and a car park with 46 spaces. Two improved crossings would be installed on the road and a new footpath would be created parallel to the park's Bowling Green. The road would lead to another car park with 26 accessible spaces and would be linked to East Park's cafe by a 145m path.
