People campaigning to keep East Park's gates closed to traffic have said their rejection of a petition signed by almost 2,000 has left them feeling ignored. Hull City Council rejected the petition due to the issue being discussed at a forthcoming East Area Committee before a final decision is made, a message seen by LDRS said. Sarah Barley, who walks her dog in East Park and who organised the petition, said she was sad it had been rejected after getting so many signatures. A council spokesperson said they were still analysing feedback from locals and park users and they understood how passionately people felt about the issue. It comes as the council's own survey on the plans, which would see the main gates opened and new access from James Reckitt Avenue, suggested support was slim. Everyone who was surveyed disagreed with plans to open the James Reckitt Avenue gates, according to a Briefing Paper to the East Area Committee seen by LDRS. The plans which were announced in November would see the gates opened in line with the park's existing opening times. A one-way system would be put in place from the main gates across the front of the park and new footpaths would be created.
