Nearly 40 roads across Hull and the East Riding are due receive pothole repairs and other works, with funding coming from a government transport pot, it was announced today. Six roads in Hull and 32 in the East Riding are to benefit from improvements over the the next 12 months, financed by a share of repurposed HS2 funding. The roads include Derrigham Street and Orchard Park Road in Hull, Flemingate in Beverley and the A164 Minster Way. Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the Government would invest £991m in local road repairs across Yorkshire and the Humber over the next 11 years and claimed that this represented the largest ever funding increase. Simon Williams, of the RAC, called on councils to use the cash to carry out vital dressing works to stop cracking in the winter, which leads to potholes forming. In the East Riding, footpath and bridge repairs will be included in the package. Councils are required to publish the list of roads as part of the funding agreement, in order to ensure that local people can see that the money is being spent on repairs. Updates on the progress of works must be given every three months, beginning in June. Minster Way, the A164, is included on the list.
